September 6

Students used the first 30 minutes to read, annotate, and respond to today's article of the week in their writer's notebooks and read independently.


We wrapped up our first topic, the environment, with a fishbowl discussion. Students considered which issue was most pressing, which issue would be easiest to solve, and what steps we can take to make the issue better. Students selected one issue and completed a "Circle of Viewpoints" activity.

The next topic for discussion is education. Students should bring an article to share with their groups on Monday.

We discussed the rhetorical devices in "On Nuclear Disarmament" and determined which ones were most effective.
